Greetings KVBA members and followers,

Depending on when this lands in your inbox, it may or may not be a beautiful day – that’s Michigan.

The KVBA continues planning for the 25th annual Kalamazoo Blues Fest on July 12-14 at Arcadia Creek Festival Site. We continue to book regional, local and national acts. We are proud to announce that BMA award-winning act Victor Wainwright is one of those…stay tuned for more.

We appreciate and ask for your continued support through membership and sponsorship and most of all your presence at live blues shows in our community.

I would like to take this time to recognize our KVBA entries in the 2018 International Blues Competition and also remind you of our next Winter Blues Fundraiser.

The International Blues Challenge represents a worldwide competition and showcase for Blues Acts and recording artists. Each affiliate of The Blues Foundation has the right to send representatives to this annual event held in Memphis, TN. This year, there were over 260 entries from around the world. KVBA sent Blue Veins – band competition, Hilger & DeVos – Solo/Duo competition, and Out of Favor Boys for Best self- produced CD. Thank you all for representing West Michigan and making KVBA proud in Memphis.

I believe Kalamazoo has great talent and potential to grow as a destination city known for the blues. Let’s make some noise about this year’s  25th Annual Blues Fest!

Speaking of the blues, our next Winter Blues Series fund raiser is Sunday February 4th.  If you are bummed out because you’re team is not in the Super Bowl, tired of seeing the same team year after year or just looking for something to do before the game, we’ve got an idea for you!  Leave all of that stuff behind, and escape to a little spot called Shakespeare’s Pub in Kalamazoo! Come and join fellow blues fans for some outstanding blues with Seventh Son and Blue Diamond.  Doors open at 2:00 pm, music starts at 3:00 until 7:00 or so, with a $6 cover.  Hope to see you there!

Thank you for keeping the blues alive,

Mike Depoian
President
Kalamazoo Valley Blues Association.
